Austrian Philharmonic coins are inspired by the Vienne Philharmonic Orchestra. Founded in 1842, the orchestra is one of the world’s most renowned and prestigious orchestras. It emerged from the musicians of the Vienna Court Opera, who decided to form an independent ensemble dedicated to performing symphonic works. The orchestra quickly gained recognition for its exceptional quality and distinctive sound, attracting prominent conductors and composers of the time.
The obverse of the 2025 Austrian Silver Philharmonic Coin features the image of the Great Pipe Organ in the Golden Concert Hall. This hall is the main concert hall within the Musikverein and the pipe organ currently installed is the third iteration of such an instrument to feature within the halls of the building.
On the reverse of 2025 1 oz Silver Philharmonics is a depiction of musical instruments. Offering a cross section of the types of instruments played by members of the orchestra, the design features a cello at the center with four violins in the foreground. In the background, you’ll notice a bassoon, a French horn, and a harp.
