Though these two sovereign mints have previously combined to offer collaborative sets, the two have never combined on a single design issued by both mints. The 2024 Britannia and Liberty Series features a combined Britannia-Liberty design with artwork from both mints’ Chief Engravers. The Royal Mint and United States Mint have previously combined on sets like the Legacies of Freedom Series featuring an American Silver Eagle and British Silver Britannia, as well as the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower set. This offering is entirely different. The design of Britannia and Liberty on the reverse of these coins also features on the obverse of American coins in this release. Royal Mint Chief Engraver Gordon Summers created the bust of Britannia, while US Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna created the effigy of Liberty.
His Majesty King Charles III is on the obverse side of 2024 British Gold Britannia and Liberty Coins. This portrait of the King captures him in left-profile relief without a crown on his head. Martin Jennings created this portrait of the King for British currency following the death of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Britannia and Liberty feature in the reverse design of 2024 1 oz Gold Britannia and Liberty Coins. Both figures are captured in right-profile relief, with their heads in opposing orientations depending on which head you rotate upright on the coin’s surface. Britannia wears her iconic Corinthian helmet and clutches a trident, while Liberty has free-flowing hair with stars and a torch in her hand.
