Australian Kangaroo bullion coins debuted in 1986, but the series neither bore its current name nor featured the design concepts it now does. In 1990, Perth Mint rebranded the gold coins from being the Australian Gold Nugget to the Australian Gold Kangaroo. This collection has offered new reverse designs each year since 1990.

In 2016, the first of two additions to the Australian Kangaroo Series was introduced. The new 1 oz Silver Kangaroo BU coin featured .9999 pure silver and a static design on the reverse each year. In 2018, these 1 oz Platinum Kangaroo BU coins were introduced with the same design as the silver coin and .9995 pure platinum.

Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse side of 2023 1 oz Platinum Kangaroo Coins. Her Majesty graces these coins for the final time following her passing in September 2022. This design is Jody Clark’s 2015 depiction of the Queen at the age of 89 wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown on her head.

A red kangaroo features on the reverse of 2023 Australian Platinum Kangaroo Coins. This design is based on a historic kangaroo design from Stuart Devlin that captures the red kangaroo species in left-profile relief hopping along the design field. The background is filled by stylized sun rays.

These 2023 1 oz Australian Platinum Kangaroo Coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The platinum coins are packaged in protective capsules, plastic tubes of 20 coins, or boxes of 100 coins. The box holds 5 rolls of 20 coins each.
