Over the course of the last 37 years, the Royal Mint has featured three different effigies of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II on the British Gold Britannia bullion series. The coins have most recently featured Jody Clark’s fifth-generation portrait of the Queen.

This portrait was used to start the 2023 release of British Gold Britannias, even after the Queen’s death. This gave the Royal Mint an opportunity to generate strong interest with the final Gold Britannias bearing the Queen’s likeness, while also working on a new portrait of King Charles III.

For the new batch of 2023 1/2 oz Gold Britannia Coins, King Charles III makes his debut on British coinage. This design of Charles III comes from Martin Jennings and depicts the king without a crown in a left-profile relief.

In the reverse design of 2023 British Gold Britannia Coins, you will find an image of Britannia. This design has remained the same on the reverse since 1987 and depicts the female allegory standing with a trident in one hand and a Union Jack shield in the other hand.

These 2023 1/2 oz British Gold Britannia Coins are available in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. The 1/2 oz Gold Britannia is available individually in a sealed plastic pouch or in multiples of 20 coins in sheets.
